How do we compare our work to overtime?
Everyone who wants to make more money will work overtime. However, overtime has, in addition to its good sides, such as higher hours, we do not have to hurry to work, and thus we have less stress, and there are some disadvantages. And those are fatigue and the impossibility of rest, the division of our focus into several sides, less time for ourselves due to the extremely dense schedule, great potential for burnout at work.
However, we always look at earnings with other expenses, such as travel to work, travel expenses, how long to travel, food expenses, and possibly if we have a family, renting a babysitter to babysit.
If the costs and earnings are equal, it is better not to work overtime, because that other job will bring less sleep and more stress. It is very important to ask ourselves the following questions if we want to work overtime.
- If we save, can we solve our financial problems, so there is no need to look for additional work?
- If we want to advance in another industry, then accepting additional work would be exceptional for our and our progress and would be worth sacrificing.
- If our additional job costs the old job, it is better not to accept it, but to focus on your full-time job. Some employers devalue additional work, i.e. our business in another firm.
Working on multiple jobs at the same time should not be permanent, because it is unsustainable. It is a period in our lives when we want to earn extra and gain more experience. It is important to focus on a job that will provide us with enough income.
Even if we choose over time, it is important to choose a job that does not cause us too much inconvenience.
